Last week I was invited to a presentation of the new Spring/Summer collection of London fashion brand Reiss. The presentation took place at the Reiss headquarters in London.
What I noticed right away was that the clothes that was shown has a slightly different tone to the Reiss’s signature tailoring.
The new collection is more versatile with a dash of playfulness.
Sensual earthy tones, nudes, luxe fabrications and romantic silhouettes result in a look that’s at once modern and feminine and that translates seamlessly from day to evening. The focus here is not just on pieces that work for now, but those that can be worn for an entire season.
A strong emphasis is placed on design and craftsmanship, beautiful details, an intimate closeness to the product and using the past as inspiration for the future.
European aesthetic permeates through much of the collection. Other influences include florist Simone Gooch for April’s romantic floral story and Picasso’s line drawings as we move closer towards high summer. Films such as A Bigger Splash and Plein Soleil also influence, inspiring a sense of laid-back luxury with cultural depth.
For the first time it is clear that occasionwear take centre stage as a newly explored femininity with a youthful spirit combines with mixed media bespoke fabrications – lace, devoré detailing and quirky textured surfaces – to create something fresh and impactful. Embroidery and embellishment add further interest. Sculptural silhouettes sit alongside soft pieces and there’s a strong focus on our in-house atelier within the drape and twisting. Authentic cutting on the stand takes the collection to a new aspirational level.
